If there was one unifying characteristic we found about 80’s fashion at Montevallo, it was plaid.
We wanted to bring up plaid because we saw it everywhere in the photos from the yearbook and the school newspaper. It was odd, but also we found it entertaining, as it was a bit ridiculous to see so much plaid. The plaid was in every article of clothing as well. Shirts, ties, blazers, pants, skirts, you name it. What is interesting is that plaid is still just as popular on campus. I (Emma) have plenty of flannel plaid shirts, and I always see different people wearing plaid on campus when walking around. Katherine even said she saw a girl in a plaid blazer a few weeks ago!
