What’s Working/What Needs Work

As a creative writer, the craft classes I’ve taken have helped me to look at a piece objectively and think about “What’s working” and “What needs work.”  So that is how I will proceed with this post

What’s working:

Theme- In our group, I’m the tech-savvy one.  No offense to Catherine and her computer skills, but she often even tells me that she trusts my computer skills.  So, I went forward with choosing our theme.  I wanted something simple for us, so the main focus was on our analysis and pictures, not our theme.  Of course, I believe our theme to be rather pretty, but it’s not distracting in any sort of way.  We’ve added our university’s logo, changed the hyperlink text to maroon to match with our university’s colors, and have changed the title of our site to correspond with our purpose. I think this is all rather sharp looking.

Page Menu- Across the top of all the pages, we have them all listed.  I think this looks really nice and professional, so our site visitors know what to expect from us.  It looks really nice.

Juxtapose- Oh my goodness, I’m so glad I got this to work!  It looks soooooo good on each organization’s page, and it meets all of my expectations!

Photos- Other than the contrasting photos of each organization’s Juxtapose, we have a handful of photos for each.  I’ve always wanted to use Flickr to display our albums of photos, but I never had a good plugin available to me to display the albums without them looking clunky.  I had switched to using WordPress’ Gallery plugin, but when I mentioned it in class, Leah private messaged me, letting me know that she could install a Flickr Plugin for me.  Hooray!  So, we have Flickr albums on each page now, and it’s quite beautiful.

What needs work:

Analysis- Catherine so graciously has added part of her analysis for Chi Omega to the site, and it looks great!  It’s laid out how we’re going to present our information, and I think it’s really strong.  We just need to add more of our respective analyses this week and next, so that’s why it’s part of this list.

Sound clips- Sigh.  Catherine is getting our interviews done today, so we have not moved very far with sound clips yet.  I’m not upset with our timing on this at all, I’m just a bit confused on how we’re going to get them weaved into our website.  I’m sure it’ll be fine and great, but when you haven’t crossed that bridge, it’s hard to see the other side.

So yep, this is what I think of our site so far.  I think it’s total cool for the most part, but we still have a significant amount to do.  Spring Break is next week though, so hopefully that’ll get us over the bridge we need to cross!

    1. Thank you so much! I saw the candy photo on Pixaby (I think), and I fell in love!
I’m not very good at poetry, but I also enjoy writing short stories! I have a few published actually!
And thank you! I’m excited to see your group site as well!

  2. Hi Ashlee,
Thanks for this update–exciting to hear more about how y’alls site is taking shape!
And no, no need to update the contract (though thank you for checking!) We totally understand that things evolve once the contract is written.
    Happy ongoing website adventures!
    Best,
    Dr. Kent
