Window Shopping Other People’s Sites

The first site that I visited was UMW’s site.  I really liked the layout they chose and how it works with their header image.  This image just screams 80’s to me!  I also really like how they have drop down menus within their topic categories.  To look at things on a National level and compare it to the local level is really cool, and I appreciated this detail they placed within their site.  I guess I was just bummed that they didn’t have any info up yet because I wanted to see how far they’ve come with their research, but all in due time!  I’m looking forward to how this site looks completed!

The second site I visited was Montevallo’s.   I liked how they included the COPLAC logo, which is honestly something Catherine and I need to incorporate into our site.  I also like the content they have present so far, including the GoogleMap insert.  I found this pretty cool honestly, because this places their project on the map.  I also enjoyed how clean looking their site was.  Nothing too messy, just something that will allow the photos to shine.  The only thing I would change might be the order of the pages at the top.  “This is Montevallo” is the homepage, yet it’s the last page on the menu.  I guess I just like things in chronological order.  However, the site isn’t finished yet, so I’m sure they have more to put in and edit that might help with that confusion.  I’m also excited to see where their website takes them!

  1. Good points, Ashlee. I agree that we all need to become more detailed oriented as we get into the specifics of the websites. I want us to think very carefully about both the purpose and place of each page, especially as it relates to the overall “thesis” of the website.
