More adventures in the 80’s

This week I am supposed to tell everyone about our current website. Well, we currently have a website. Just kidding, I inherited my dad’s sense of humor. Actually Emma and I met this morning and feel pretty good about where we are headed. Mostly I have been playing around with the WordPress tools. So nothing is set in stone, but at least we have a basic template. Uploading all our pictures to the media library and then inserting them into pages seems pretty straight-forward. I just got some more pictures from our library archives, so we will be using those in addition to the yearbook and newspaper pictures. So once we finish laying out the website, we can get to the fun part of actually organizing our research. Emma and I are pretty excited about this, as our research has led us to some gems like this.

The vertical striped sweater definitely is a fashion statement. Plus this picture looks like everyday life. Part of the idea behind our project is seeing what people wore everyday. Fashion often gets this connotation of being high-class and aloft, when really fashion is just what people wear. We want to see what real people looked like and how they expressed themself.

I like the concept of your project! I think it’s really cool to look at people’s every day style and see what choices they made depending on what was going to happen next. This photo is pure gold. I love her shocked expression! I’m looking forward to yours and Emma’s site!

  2. Katherine, I think your interest in capturing “everyday” fashion is interesting. And, yes, there is still time for experimentation, but I like that you are inching closer to your final decisions/selections. Dr. Brown
